Neil Mitchell says the four-day celebrations in the UK to honour Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne were “the best thing to happen to the world for a long, long time”.

The 3AW Mornings host says it was “the perfect party”.

“It was just what the world needed – something to celebrate,” he said.

“It marked a real end to the stuffiness of the royals.

“I thought the Queen showed a superb sense of humour, a superb sense of timing.

“That little skit she did with Paddington Bear was comedic gold. It was just beautiful.

“And Buckingham Palace was lit up like a nightclub. It looked lovely and very un-regal.

“I thought it was the best thing to happen to the world for a long, long time.”
