Melbourne’s office return ‘a bit of a mixed bag’

Almost 70 per cent of Melbourne businesses don’t expect their employees to return full-time to the office.

A study by the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) has also found that two out of five office workers are only at their desks one or two days a week.

Nineteen per cent of workers have returned to the office five days a week, while 14 per cent haven’t returned at all

VCCI CEO Paul Guerra says it’s “a bit of a mixed bag”.

And he doesn’t expect that to change during the winter period.

“When you look at the reasons why people aren’t coming into offices, length of commute is one of them, fear of contracting COVID is another,” Mr Guerra told Ross and Russel.

“I think people are going to opt out of public spaces rather than opt in for that winter period.”
