Ringwood VicRoads causing ‘a bit of a problem’ for locals

New drivers are causing chaos in quiet residential streets near a newly-opened VicRoads testing centre, fed-up locals say.

VicRoads closed its Burwood and Mooroolbark centres earlier this year, when its new Ringwood facility opened.

Since then, Ringwood locals have noticed a massive surge in traffic in their previously quiet streets, which are now on testing routes.

“It has caused a bit of a problem,” driving instructor and president of the Australian Drivers Association, Stan Gates, told Tony Jones.

Mr Gates says too many instructors are only teaching on the test routes, increasing the traffic on those streets and leading to poorer driving skills among learners.

“We have the added burden of driver trainers who do the wrong thing by just test route training,” he said.

“The standard of testing has also, we find, declined as well over the years.”

The Australian Drivers Association is planning to meet with VicRoads to discuss the problem later this month.
