Tom Elliott has described the Texas school shooting as “hideously tragic” but says there is next to no chance the United States will change its gun laws.

More than 20 people, mostly children, were shot dead by an 18-year-old gunman.

There have been more mass shootings in America this year than days.

Sadly, because of that, Tom Elliott said a majority of Americans had become numb to the impact of such events.

He also pointed out legislative issues with the second amendment of the US constitution allowing citizens to have a gun.

“The only way to change the constitution is to have the American equivalent of a referendum and that is very, very hard to do,” the 3AW Drive host said.

Professor Joe Siracusa, US politics expert at Curtin University, said gun violence was engrained in the origins of the entire country.

“America, from the beginning, has been a very violent place,” he said.
