Victorian heritage number plate sells for eyewatering record sum
The number plate ‘VIC 14’ has set a new public record for a Victorian heritage plate.
It sold for $2,270,500, and attracted an additional $113,000 in buyer’s premium.
National auctions manager at Shannons Auctions, Christophe Boribon, says there were “four or five bidders”.
“Some people put them in self-retention and keep them at home or on display, others do exhibit the plates on their cars,” he told Ross and Russel.
“The market for heritage plates, it’s gone tenfold in the ten years.”
