Malcolm Turnbull says he’d be ‘delighted’ to see Daniel Andrews’ plan for Melbourne Metro Rail.

The Victorian Government is yet to secure any federal funding for the $11 billion project, which includes five new underground rail stations.

There had previously been a stalemate between the Victorian Premier and former Prime Minister Tony Abbott over $3 billion worth of funding for the project, which Mr Abbott had set aside for East-West Link.

But the new Prime Minister told Neil Mitchell he was open to the idea of using those funds on rail.

‘There’s always hope,’ he said on 3AW Mornings.

‘I’m yet to see a proposal, the minister is yet to see a proposal, but certainly we don’t discriminate between rail and road, or any other form of transport.

‘I’d be delighted to see a proposal, which the Premier will no doubt show it to us.’
