Victoria Police has revealed 30 of the 50 people booted out of the MCG on Saturday night were evicted for vaping inside the venue.

3AW has received a string of complaints on the talkback line in recent weeks about people smoking electronic cigarettes in the stands at the MCG and Marvel Stadium.

Inspector Jamie Templeton from Victoria Police told Neil Mitchell there was no doubt vaping was an “issue” at games.

“We work with the ‘G and events to try and publicise the fact that it is prohibited – not part of the terms and conditions,” he said.

“Some of those evictions, people understand, but some are a little antsy and don’t want to leave and that’s when police get involved.”

MCC chief Stuart Fox said he was “extremely disappointed” with the behaviour of a “small number” of the 70,000 fans.

“Poor behaviour is not tolerated at the MCG and we will continue take appropriate action to deal with anti-social behaviour,” he said.

“Our staff, security partner and Victoria Police work tirelessly to encourage and support a respectful environment for every visitor to the MCG.”
