‘Looks huge’: Spectacular full moon stuns skygazers
Many reported seen a stunning sight in the sky last night.
It was a full moon and it looked bigger than usual because the moon is a little closer to Earth than usual.
Australia’s astronomer at large, Professor Fred Watson, says we were on the unlucky side of the planet last night.
“In the Western Hemisphere, mostly the Americas, they had a total eclipse of the moon,” he told Neil Mitchell.
But the moon here was still something special.
“The thing that really grabs people … is often when you’ve got a full moon and you see it rising … it looks huge, it looks absolutely enormous,” Professor Watson said.
And it’s still worth a look tonight.
“The moon is a little bit past full, it will still look fantastic, look for it just after sunset.”
