HMAS Stalwart: New navy ship arrives in Melbourne
The Royal Australian Navy’s new replenishment ship, HMAS Stalwart, is pulling into Port Phillip.
The HMAS Stalwart, the navy’s newest supply class auxiliary oiler replenishment ship, will berth at Station Pier at about midday.
It’s the ship’s first port visit outside of its home port of Rockingham in Western Australia.
HMAS Stalwart Commander Steve McCracken, says those onboard are “working hard to build our knowledge … and get ourselves ready so we can be operationally capable at some time this year”.
“It’s our job to bring fuel, food, water, ammunition to other ships … so that we can keep those ships out at sea for longer,” he told Neil Mitchell.
Melburnians are welcome to wander down to see the ship, but tickets to get on board for the open day on Sunday have been snapped up.
“We had an overwhelming response and unfortunately all the tickets have already sold out!,” Mr McCracken said.
