Staff crisis continues: Melbourne venue forced to cancel Mother’s Day lunch
Serious staff shortages are still plaguing hospitality businesses.
A Melbourne venue has been forced to cancel its Mother’s Day lunch because it can’t find enough workers.
The Moonee Ponds Club was expecting to serve about 100 patrons on Sunday, but manager Phillip Dentith had to make the difficult decision to call the event off.
“We couldn’t get any real support for a head chef. We used a number of agencies and apps and nobody was really available,” he told Neil Mitchell.
Mr Dentith says the venue’s head chef is working six days a week because he can’t find other kitchen staff.
“He’s owed about 10 days in lieu,” he said.
“I really would love a duty manager and another chef.”
