Students wanting to become a teacher would be forced to pass a literacy and numeracy test before being able to apply for a teaching degree at university, under a new Morrison government plan.

They’re currently required to pass a similar test at the end of the degree.

It comes amid concerns about the standard of teachers entering Australian classrooms.

But the Australian Education Union says it’s not the answer.
