‘Significant’ construction stuff up behind yesterday’s Monash Freeway nightmare
A major construction stuff up is being blamed for reducing the Monash Freeway to just one out-bound lane for most of yesterday.
The road was down to one lane from 6.30am to 7.30pm due to emergency repairs.
Crews completing upgrade works between Warrigul and Springvale roads yesterday morning rushed to reopen the road in time for the morning peak.
But as soon as cars travelled across the stretch of freeway the road began to break up.
Major Roads Victoria CEO Allen Garner admits it was “a significant construction failure”.
“It would appear from the initial investigations that it’s been opened too early to traffic,” he told Neil Mitchell.
“It was opened before the asphalt had fully cured and set.”
Mr Garner says anyone whose car was damaged by the roadworks is entitled to compensation from CPB, the contractor who was working on the road.
