The unlikely political party Tom Elliott agrees with when it comes to housing policy
Tom Elliott says the Greens are leading the way in Australian politics when it comes to housing policy at a federal level.
The 3AW Drive host said the Coalition and Labor were pushing flawed policy in the lead-up to the election.
Labor has committed to pay for up to 40 per cent of new houses with its newly unveiled Help to Buy scheme, while the Coalition’s housing policy is also based around financial incentives for would-be home buyers.
Tom Elliott said more money wasn’t the answer to solving the housing crisis.
“If all the government does is put all this extra money into people’s pockets, all it is going to do is simply going to drive up the price of houses up even more than what has already happened,” Tom Elliott said.
The Greens, however, want a million houses built over the next 20 years, addressing the issue of supply.
“This is actually a good policy from the Greens – I can’t believe I’m saying that! But the Greens are doing something about supply,” Tom Elliott said.
“I think it makes a lot of sense.”
