A man who was threatened with a gun during a wild police chase that ended in Bacchus Marsh yesterday says the ordeal left him shaken.

A man wanted over a series of armed hold-ups was driving a stolen car at speed, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and at times become airborne while trying to flee from police in broad daylight on Sunday.

Alex Pjanic’s car was clipped by the driver in Melton at about 9.30am.

“Our car spun a few times, went into oncoming traffic, missed a few vehicles,” he told Neil Mitchell.

“The driver and female passenger we’re trying to leave, a few people were trying to stop him.

“That’s when he said he had a gun, he put his hand into his bag and went to pull it out. We only saw the handle of it … everyone sort of backed off and let him go.”

Mr Pjanic’s mother is in the Royal Melbourne Hospital with internal bleeding and broken ribs after the collision.

After fleeing the scene of the crash, the driver allegedly made his way to Melton where he threatened a family with a gun and stole their Kia Sportage

Another witness, Marion, found the man hiding on her property.

She told Neil Mitchell he went on to hold her neighbour at gunpoint.

An unmarked police car eventually rammed the Kia at Bacchus Marsh before several specialist police officers pinned the suspect to the ground, delivering several punches.

The driver, a 24-year-old Box Hill man, has spent the night in custody.

Police are defending their actions after ramming the stolen vehicle and punching the suspect several times while pinning him to the ground.

But Mr Pejanic says “after what he’s done, he had the gun and then he’s also apparently pulled the gun on a family”, he supports the actions of police.
