Neil Mitchell’s take on the anti-corruption watchdog’s Labor investigation
A draft report from Victoria’s anti-corruption watchdog, seen by The Age, reveals a rotten culture within state Labor.
The Independent Broad-Based Anti-Corruption Commission (IBAC) questioned 26 witnesses — including the Premier — in private, and another seven in public hearings, with the interim report concluding there was misuse of public resources by the party, and it was condoned by some within the party.
Neil Mitchell says what “really annoys” him about the report’s findings is evidence that Victorians missed out on services that should have been available to them as a result of the rotten party culture.
“The report says there was evidence jobs were provided in the offices of members of parliament, state and federal, provided on the basis they did not have to turn up for work,” the 3AW Mornings host said.
“If you’ve ever asked a Labor MP for help, if you’ve ever had trouble getting an answer, if you’ve ever had trouble getting any action or reply perhaps it’s because some of their staff were paid by us not to work! They didn’t even have to turn up!”
