Australians are being urged to be prepared for a “very nasty” flu season.

Doctors are concerned less than 50 percent of people over 18 will get a flu shot this year.

Immunisation Coalition CEO Kim Sampson says, with COVID-19 circulating, the flu isn’t “top of mind” with many people.

“We’re seeing a huge increase in the number of influenza-like illnesses that are being reported at GPs,” he told Ross and Russel.

“We’re preparing for what could be a very nasty year.”

Free influenza vaccines will be available for over 18s at Melbourne Town Hall on Friday.
