Josh Frydenberg admits Kooyong ‘will be a close contest’
The Federal Treasurer has admitted he expects the contest in his seat of Kooyong, in Melbourne’s east, will “be close”.
Josh Frydenberg is up against popular independent Monique Ryan, who has secured more than $1 million in funding from 1800 donors including Climate 200.
Both the Liberal Party and Dr Ryan have splashed significant cash on their advertising campaigns, as the seat emerges as one of the most expensive election races in the country.
Speaking to Neil Mitchell, Mr Frydenberg admitted “the reality is it will be a close contest”.
“I just hope all the listeners from Kooyong right now understand what is at stake here and a fake independent is a vote for Labor,” he said.
Mr Frydenberg slammed so-called “fake independents”, including Dr Ryan.
“They’re funded as a political party, they’re running on a platform of transparency yet they won’t tell the community of Kooyong, or indeed the other seats in which they’re running, how they will vote in the event of a hung Parliament,” he said.
“There’s no detail, there’s no costings behind any of their ideas.”
