Essendon great Matthew Lloyd says the Bombers could learn from Geelong’s 2007 premiership side when it comes to “honesty” within the playing group.

Lloyd told Andrew McGrath he thought the club “lacked honesty” in a fascinating interview on 3AW on Thursday night.

He was asked to expand on what he meant on Friday night.

Lloyd pointed at Geelong’s famous internal review before the club won the 2007 premiership, where the likes of Matthew Scarlett and Gary Ablett Junior faced brutal feedback from their teammates.

They went on to become two of the greatest players of the modern era.

“They backed it up and it was a turning point,” Lloyd said on 3AW.

Lloyd questioned whether Essendon’s leadership, led by Dyson Heppell, was too positive and lacked a “bad cop” when it came to driving standards.
