Labor leader Anthony Albanese has received a mixed reception at Bluesfest in Byron Bay.

Mr Albanese received a mostly friendly reception when he first arrived at the festival, but there were loud boos when he briefly faced the crowds ahead of a performance by Jimmy Barnes on Sunday night.

The opposition leader took to the stage with a short pitch on two issues.

“What we want is to recognise First Nations people in our constitution,” he said.

“What we want is a government that backs the arts sector.”
