Mark Robinson sheds new light in Cyril Rioli story
3AW Football contributor Mark Robinson has revealed that recent media reports involving Cyril Rioli and Hawthorn President Jeff Kennett have “not sat well” with former Essendon star Michael Long.
It comes after Caroline Wilson’s report in The Age in which Rioli spoke about a number of incidents from his time at Hawthorn which ultimately led to his early retirement from the game in 2018.
“The trashing of Kennett, the trashing of the Hawthorn Football Club, and the trashing of the game … he said it hurt him,” Robinson said on 3AW Football.
“It hurt him to see what Cyril was saying.
“He said he was saddened by the article, but he was saddened by the position the Rioli’s found themselves in.
“He was saddened because of the position Hawthorn, Kennett, and the AFL, and the game itself, found itself in.”
