New fans flock to Grand Prix

The Australian Grand Prix is back at Albert Park after an absence of more than two years, and it’s proving to be the hottest ticket in town.

Friday was a record-breaking attendance for the event with 112,466 punters making their way for the turnstiles.

Part of the reason is the astonishing success of the Netflix series Drive to Survive which takes viewers behind the thrills and spills of the Formula 1 season.

Abby Gossage, who’s been a Formula 1 fan for ten years, says she’s seen the audience change over time.

“I was lucky enough to go to Singapore in 2017 and there’s just such greater representation here,” Ms Gossage told Tony Jones on 3AW Drive.

“There’s all ages and all genders, it’s really great to see.”
