‘People are dying’: Leading doctor sounds dire warning in Victoria’s hospital crisis
A leading doctor says a stressed workforce and overcrowded emergency department are causing poorer patient outcomes, and in some cases, leading to avoidable deaths.
It comes after Neil Mitchell revealed Ambulance Victoria issued a Code Red for over two hours earlier this week, with people being told to expect delays for ambulances.
Victorian chair of the emergency medicine college, Dr Mya Cubitt, told Neil Mitchell the lack of resources is costing lives.
“Oh people are dying, absolutely,” Dr Cubitt said on 3AW Mornings.
“This is a fixable problem, and until we fix it, we will have delayed diagnosis, delayed care and deaths related to it.”
