Tom Elliott says there is no doubt the federal government will attempt to ease the cost of living pressures on Australians in tonight’s federal budget.

He says you can expect a cut to the fuel excise, as well as a $250 one-off payment for pensioners and low to middle income earners.

“Cost of living pressure is enormous at the moment and the government is acutely aware of this,” Tom Elliott said on Tuesday.

The 3AW Drive host said he would watch on with great interest to see whether petrol prices dropped immediately in wake of the cuts to the petrol tax.

“How do we know whether it will be passed on?” he said.
