Underqualified driver sparks major train delays

RUMOUR CONFIRMED
Article image for Underqualified driver sparks major train delays

RUMOUR CONFIRMED

The Pakenham line was this morning hit by delays due to an underqualified driver who wasn’t allowed to drive a train over a bridge.

A V/Line train came to a halt in Hallam at about 6.30am.

It’s understood the driver wasn’t qualified to drive over a newly-constructed bridge, and another driver had to be called in to take over.

The stuff-up brought the Pakenham line to a halt, with commuters left facing delays of up to 45 minutes while bus replacements were dispatched.

Buses replaced trains between Berwick and Dandenong.

Services on the line have now resumed.
