A footy fan is calling on fellow punters to pull their heads in after he witnessed a young hospitality worker verbally abused by several men at the MCG on Wednesday night.

Eddie got in touch with 3AW after attending the Melbourne and Western Bulldogs match.

It’s been widely reported the MCG is on a hiring spree, with significant shortages in hospitality staff.

It resulted in long lines and delays for those wanting food and drink at the game.

Eddie said he witnessed frustrated fans take out their frustrations on a young woman working by herself.

“I just think it’s pathetic,” he said.

Eddie said people have had two years to get used to difficulties and delays related to COVID-19 and their actions weren’t setting a good example for young fans.

The MCC has since apologised to members for not meeting their expectations, confirming they are struggling with staff shortages.

MCC CEO Stuart Fox said he understood the frustration from members having to wait longer than normal for food and drink.

But he called for calm.

“As we work through this challenging period we ask you to be kind and respectful to staff,” Fox said in a statement.

“Many are working extra shifts and long hours, giving it their all in challenging circumstances, and we are greatly appreciative of their effort.”
