Opposition leader Matthew Guy says small business can’t afford to take another hit as the state government launches its trial of paid sick leave for casual workers.

The ‘Victorian Sick Pay Guarantee’ scheme will last for two years, and will be funded by the state government, costing taxpayers $245.6 million.

However, after the trial is finished, the funding could come through an industry levy.

“What we have said is that, whatever the reason, you can’t keep stinging small business, not KPMG and BHP, but small business,” Mr Guy told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“You can’t keep stinging the families that run those businesses with more and more tax.”
