There are fears the price of petrol could rise as high as $3 a litre as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war affects oil prices.

Tom Elliott says it presents a difficult, and maybe “unpallatable choice” to Australians.

“We could have as much fuel as we want at $1.50 a litre,” he said on 3AW Drive.

“We just have to buy it from Vladimir Putin.

“Now we could do it – the Russians will be desperate to sell their stocks of oil to anybody who will buy it, but we would not be sending Russia a lesson.

“So what do you want – do you want to send the Russian a lesson about what they’re doing in Ukraine, or do you want cheap petrol?”

Senior Philosopher at The Ethics Centre, Dr Tim Dean, said it’s a question about what is right.

“The point of ethics is not to find what is convenient, or what is easy, the point of ethics is to find what is right,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Drive.

“So that’s what we’re interest in.

“Are the actions that we are taking going to be the right action, given the costs they are going to be imposing?”
