âJust trying to surviveâ: Australians share chilling accounts of whatâs happening in Ukraine

Russia has seized control of former nuclear power plant Chernobyl, the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant and an airfield near Kyiv, as violent bloodshed in Ukraine continues.
Australian photojournalist in Ukraine, Bryce Wilson, says heâs âjust been trying to surviveâ.
âI woke up at I think something like 4.30am because there were explosions outside my apartment,â he told Ross and Russel.
âI was in the streets with a teammate of mine and a missile went over my head.
âI still canât really make sense of it.
âRussia has invaded Ukraine and they are now killing civilians on Ukrainian territory.â
Mr Wilson was planning to travel from eastern Ukraine to Kyiv, but due to intense fighting, itâs now not safe to travel, so heâs bunkered down in central Ukraine.

Another Australian in Ukraine, Ken Herbert, who lives in Kyiv, plans to try and flee to Hungary or Poland.
âI believe that this isnât even the full force of what Russia can send. The number of troops they have on the border doesnât match what is currently within Ukraine,â he told Neil Mitchell.
âThey can still send at lot more at us yet.â
