Tom Elliott fears Australia is on the verge of a power supply crisis and nobody is talking about it.

It comes on the back of news some of Australia’s biggest coal-fired power stations will now close several years earlier than first forecast.

“If you like reliable, on-demand electricity… it’s a potential disaster,” Tom Elliott said on Monday.

“In the next few years, all of these massive coal-fired power stations are going to close – it’s going to happen.

“And yet no one – I repeat, no one – has a plan for how to replace that loss in generating energy.”

Tom Elliott said there were still many unanswered about how those power sources will be replaced and the practicality of renewable energy supplies.

“Black outs are going to be a big, big thing, in our immediate future,” he said.

“We have to talk about this.”

But the Director of Climate and Environment at the Australasian Centre for Corporate Responsibility told Tom Elliott he was confident enough was being done to ensure Australia’s power supply.

“I think we are,” Dan Gocher said.
