Why Gillon McLachlan is confident footy fans will return in their droves this season
AFL boss Gillon McLachlan is calling on footy fans to return in their droves this season, saying it’s crucial to get Melbourne “going again”.
And he’s confident they will.
“People want their lives back,” McLachlan said on 3AW.
The league chief executive told Neil Mitchell there would be no COVID-19 restrictions at games, aside from checking in.
“Once you QR code in, then you will be back to how you remember it,” he said.
“You can go to your seat, go to the bar, buy a ticket at the gate, use your membership.”
There will be no caps on crowds, either, with McLachlan optimistic about the first three games of the season selling out.
The AFL boss also addressed ongoing concerns about the league’s sponsorship links with gambling companies.
“We keep reviewing it, we know it’s an issue for some people, and we think it’s about balance,” he said.
