Premier confirms Victorian bid to host 2026 Commonwealth Games
Victoria will enter exclusive negotiations to bring the 2026 Commonwealth Games to Victoria.
Last month, it emerged that the Victorian Government had been approached by the Commonwealth Games Federation after a struggle to find a host for the event.
If awarded the event, the Premier says Victoria will ” demonstrate to the world a new way to deliver the competition”, with much of it held in regional areas, not in Melbourne like the 2006 event.
“This will be a Games like no other, it’s not just a handful of Games in regional Victoria, it will predominately be held in the regions,” he said.
