A 94-year-old man has been assaulted in an unprovoked attack at St Kilda.

The elderly man had just left his apartment complex on The Esplanade, and was taking out his bins when he was assaulted just after midnight on Monday.

He fell to the ground and was taken to hospital in a stable condition to be treated for his injuries.

He’s since been discharged.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, with a solid build and was wearing light-coloured trousers at the time.

Police want anyone who witnessed suspicious activity on The Esplanade at the time to come forward.
