Education experts say violence at school has reached tipping point, with calls for teachers to be given official training on what to do when a fight erupts.

It comes after vision circulated of a brawl between two girls at a Shepparton school.

Tom Elliott was confronted by the lack of action from teachers.

Caller Morris told Tom he’d worked as a teacher for 15 years and a lot of the inaction likely came down to the fact the teachers were concerned about involving themselves.

“We kind of do it at our own peril and leave ourselves open to legal liability,” he said.

“You don’t want to leave yourself open.

“It’s a difficult one.”

Adam Voigt, who is CEO of Real Schools and former principal himself, said Morris made a valid point.

He said it was a significant issue.

“We have increasing rates of violence at schools, we’ve got increasing rates of violence between students and we’ve also got increasing rates of violence against teachers,” Mr Voigt said.

“What we do know is that if the teachers get involved, there is also a really high risk they will be hurt, as well.”
