The CEO of the National Australia Bank says he can understand Alan Joyce’s frustration after the Qantas boss likened Western Australia’s COVID-19 measures to North Korea on 3AW.

Ross McEwan told Neil Mitchell it was time for a “re-think” in Australia.

“I’m not surprised Alan has got so upset about it,” he said.

“You can’t run a business when the rules are changing all the time.”

Mr McEwan told Neil Mitchell workers were desperately needed back in the country’s major cities, particularly now Australia has such a high vaccination rate.

Mr McEwan said it was frustrating workers were continually encouraged to work from home, given he’d seen nightclubs “jammed” with people not wearing masks.

“But it’s not safe to come into the work place? We need to get these cities moving again,” he said.
