Legendary Victorian Football Association footballer Fred Cook died in a Bendigo nursing home at age 74 yesterday.

John ‘Sly’ Silvester says the football champion fell into drug use after befriending notorious criminal Dennis Allen.

It was with Allen that Fred Cook encountered an exceptionally bizarre sight.

“Allan liked him and took him home once and as they walked in there were two geese, very aggressive geese which stated to squawk and peck and carry on,” Sly told Ross and Russel.

“Dennis said ‘Oh they’re much, much better than guard dogs, attack geese, because they’re very, very protective of their area’.”
