The Bureau of Meteorology has warned parts of Victoria can expect another round of serious thunderstorms today.

It comes after storms on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning caused flooding in a number of towns, including Mildura and Malmsbury, and more thunderstorms led to about 300 SES call-outs in the Geelong area on Thursday evening.

Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Miriam Bradbury says more thunderstorms are expected to develop in Victoria from midday, with the central part of the state expected to be hit.

“The peak of the thunderstorm activity is expected to be sort of mid-to-late afternoon, heading into the early evening,” she told Neil Mitchell.

“Melbourne is really very much in the hotspot area for storms today so we could see heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding … but there is also the potential for the storms to bring damaging wind gusts and large hail.

“The best advice there is to just keep an eye on the radar, keep an eye on the Bureau’s warning page and keep track of the further advice from local emergency services.”
