A plastic surgeon says medical staff all over Victoria are “sitting at home doing nothing” due to the government’s restrictions on elective surgery.

Dr Richard Bloom told Tom Elliott he feared the ban would create a backlog of operations that would never be caught up on.

He said specialist staff were not of any use to the COVID-19 response.

“They could all be being used but the government is banning us from using them, and they’re not part of the COVID response,” he said.
