Why ‘certainty’ over resumption of IVF services is a matter of urgency
A fertility specialist says the mental “anguish” associated with IVF is a “hidden grief” in the community and says patients need to know when services will resume for their own wellbeing.
IVF has been suspended in Victoria after the state government declared a Code Brown to help the stretched health care system.
It’s led to fierce backlash, with time of the essence for those trying conceive a child.
Dr Fleur Cattrall is the Medical Director of Melbourne IVF and told Tom Elliott answers were needed and now.
“It was reassuring to hear that work was being done to resume IVF services as quickly as possible, but we need to know when,” she said.
“Days matter when it comes to fertility patients.
“They’re shocked this has happened, because we worked continuously throughout the pandemic.”
