A million more Victorians become eligible for their COVID-19 booster shot today.

But 40 per cent of people already eligible are yet to have their third shot.

Deputy chair of the Australian General Practice Alliance, Dr Mukesh Haikerwal, who runs the Altona North GP Respiratory Clinic, says a several factors explain the lagging booster uptake rate.

“It’s a combination of things: New Year, changes in guidance from from six months to five months to four months, so it just keeps changing rapidly,” he told Tony Jones, filling in for Neil Mitchell.

“Getting vaccines into fridges has been an issue because we had to throw a whole lot of vaccines away towards the end of last month.”
