Everyone predicted it, everyone saw it coming, but it’s still very disappointing to see the West Indies succumb with barely a whimper. Australia won the 1st Test by an innings and 212 runs, losing just 4 wickets and within 2 days 2 sessions.

Darren Bravo (108) batted beautifully in the 1st innings, drawing comparisons to Brian Lara and Roy Fredericks. Kragg Brathwaite (94) had the stomach to put up a fight. Kemar Roach was unselfish in his support of the top order batsmen. The positives end there.

Day 1 was nothing short of shambolic and demoralising.  Front line bowlers struggling with rhythm and consistency refused to commit to the hard work, failing to apply any pressure to Australia.  The frailty both in the West Indies bowling attack and the batting order looks like a strength compared to the inability of all to work as a team.

Nevertheless, it was great to see the return of James Pattinson to Test cricket.  Desperate for wickets yesterday he was rewarded in the 2nd innings claiming 5/27.  A testament to patience, he has capitalised at a time when Australia’s fast bowling attack has been weakened.

Australian batsmen continue their summer of strong performances.  Man of the Match, Adam Voges smashing a number of long standing records on his way to an unbeaten 269.
