The last time Steve O’Keefe graced the SCG during a Test match, he was a young boy playing Milo Cricket.

That was 22 years ago.

On Sunday, the left-arm spinner hopes to be back on the field – but this time as part of the XI representing Australia in the third and final Test of the Frank Worrell Trophy series against the West Indies.

O’Keefe is rated a big chance to partner Nathan Lyon in the Aussie attack as they look to sweep the series 3-0.

Speaking to 3AW’S Sports Today, O’Keefe said he would love to be given the opportunity to wear the baggy green cap for the first time in Australia on his home ground the SCG.

The 31-year-old’s sole Test came against Pakistan in Dubai in October, 2014. 

‘It’s been 10 years in Australia since we played two spinners and those spinners that we played were (Shane) Warne and (Stuart) MacGill,’ O’Keefe told Sports Today.

‘I’ve made my debut for New South Wales at the SCG and coming up to what could a Test on home soil, for me it doesn’t get any better.

‘However we’ve still got a couple of hurdles to get across in regards to selection but personally it would not be any better than to play a Test in Sydney.’
