Australia will be represented in curling for the first time at the upcoming Winter Olympics.

Dean Hewitt and Tahli Gill qualified overnight for the mixed doubles.

Dean’s father, Steve Hewitt, a former curling champion himself, told Tom Elliott it was exciting.

He also explained what the “brooming” in front of the sliding rock achieved.

“It makes the rock grow straighter, allows it to go further and allow you to position the rock,” Mr Hewitt said on 3AW Drive.

“It’s a very important part of the game.”
