Neil Mitchell has been flooded with messages in recent weeks from listeners suffering badly from hayfever.

Some say it’s the worst it’s ever been.

Jo Douglass is a Professor of Medicine at Melbourne University and also Director of Research at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and is a specialist physician in asthma and allergic disease.

She said there was no doubt it was a torrid time of year for many.

“We shouldn’t underestimate how severe it is for some people,” she said.

And Professor Douglas warned hayfever was often a precursor to undiagnosed asthma.
