Cricket Australia chief Nick Hockley admits it’s been a “challenging time for everyone” since the COVID-19 pandemic began, but says he’ll remain committed to doing whatever he can to keep cricket going in the face of border restrictions.

He told 3AW Cricket Australia was finalising plans with Western Australia to host an Ashes Test in the state, with specialised quarantine requirements.

But the move has split opinion, particularly in Western Australia, with families and friends still unable to gain permission to enter the state to visit loved ones due to the state’s draconian border measures.

“Look, it’s been a challenging time for everyone,” Mr Hockley told Sportsday.

“But one thing we have been very conscious of throughout, ever since March last year, is doing absolutely everything we can to keep cricket going because it brings so much joy to people and brings them together and we’ve had great support all around the country.”
