Donate to help SES hero whose home was destroyed
A SES hero who played a key role in helping those hit by the storms in the Dandenong Ranges earlier this year was left homeless after a tree crushed his home when wild winds hit Victoria last week.
One of the deputy controllers at the Emerald SES, Steve Reid, has set up a GoFundMe to help Ben Owen and his family get back on their feet.
The initial fundraising goal was $10,000 but the campaign has already raised more than $18,000.
“I set this up because … there are still so many other costs that you get hit with when you’re waiting for your house to get back to a condition that you can go and live in again,” he told Neil Mitchell on 3AW Mornings.
“He had some of his dogs rescued from the house, they had some vet bills that needed to be done and so on.
“It’ just to give him that bit of a space, and something else he doesn’t need to worry about.”
