Fremantle chief says there’s ‘significant uncertainty’ around AFLW season
Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick says there’s “significant uncertainty” surrounding the AFLW season as Western Australian remains shut off from the rest of the country.
Round 1 of the competition is set for late January, but it is not known whether the border will be open by then.
“We’ve certainly got significant uncertainty around the AFLW season in particular,” he told Sportsday on 3AW.
“Whilst we understand the (WA) Premier is going to outline a bit of a roadmap out by the end of this week, I would image that’s not going to be as early as January.
“I’m kind of resigned to the fact there’s going to be an element where by we might have to travel, or there’ll be an interrupted season of some sort for our AFLW team.”
“In relation to the men’s (team) I think there’s certainly caution, I wouldn’t say there’s concern as yet, we’ve obviously got a bit of time prior to the season starting.”
