Neil Mitchell has hit out at graffiti vandals and a number ‘offensive’ posters being plastered across Melbourne on Australia Day.

‘Happy invasion day’ graffiti has been sprayed on the walls of Parliament Station, with one poster near Southern Cross Station suggesting Australians were ‘celebrating 228 years of genocide’ today.

‘It’s nonsense and it’s offensive,’ Neil Mitchell said.

‘You might argue genocide did exist in another era, more than 200 years ago, but I don’t like the word being thrown around now.

‘The posters are saying genocide continues today – that’s not right.’

Thousands of protesters have rallied through the CBD protesting for Aboriginal rights, shutting a section of the city near Flinders Street Station.

3AW Mornings spoke with Vivian, who was at the protest.

She told Neil indigenous ‘communities wanted their voice heard’ by government.
