Port Phillip Bay’s 120 resident Burrunan dolphins are under threat.

Speaking on 3AW Drive, Director of the Australian Marine Mammal Conservation Foundation, Dr Kate Charlton-Robb, said their small population size, along with human presence is having an impact.

‘Our boating, our use of plastics, the amount of litter in the environment…people need to rethink their use of single-use plastic’

Dr Charlton-Robb said the dolphins never leave the bay and there are regulations in place for approaching them.

‘We actually have to give them the choice to interact with us.’ she said.
