Yelling in the workplace: Is it ever ok in 2021?
On the second day of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission’s public hearings yesterday, an ex-staffer of former Labor minister Adem Somyurek said he “spat venom” at her.
It got Ross and Russel questioning: What’s the status of yelling in the workplace?
Workplace performance expert Tony Wilson says yelling ranges from raising your voice to verbal abuse, and it can get workers in trouble.
“I think you’ll find that technically any sort of yelling at people today in the workplace can be considered as some sort of bullying or some sort of abuse,” he told Ross and Russel.
“It depends on the content of what you say, it also depends on the pattern.
“If you’re a manager who uses it as your go-to just to get angry at people for every small thing they do, then that’s probably going to cross the line.”
