The stats don’t lie when it comes to Victoria’s schools shortage, says the Grattan Institute.

A report in The Age today said up to 220 new schools need to be built in Victoria in the next decade to cope with an explosion in student numbers. 

A study shows 190,000 extra students over the next decade must be absorbed into the state system.

Dr Peter Goss, the school education program director at the Grattan Institute, told Ross and John there was no guessing about it – we need more schools.

‘The number of new students is fairly predictable because of population growth,’ he said.

The government says it’s building state schools as fast as it can.

Education Minister James Merlino blames a lack of funding and planning by the previous government for the fact that there will be no new schools this year.
